According to Hornstra from Ter Idzard (NL), the perfect covering system does not exist: "Every system has its pros and cons. If it's not labour-intensive, then it takes a lot of time. And if it doesn't take much time, like with an automatic system, then it's extremely expensive. These are considerations that a farmer must make beforehand. The Silage Safe system does take some time the first time, but once it's covered, it's solid as a rock." Hornstra proudly points to his pit: "Even with last fall's storm, everything is still tightly secured."

Hornstra has had covering experience with Silage Safe for several years now. "Before, I used sand on the pit, which had the advantage of providing good pressure. But with frost, it's an extremely heavy task. But with frost it is a very tough job, which requires a lot of hard digging. Silage Safe has the advantage that in the winter months you can easily loosen the buckles”, Hornstra explains.," explains Hornstra.

The quality of his pit is very good. In the photos, it can be seen that there are no signs of fermentation or mould present; the cutting surface is nicely even.
